You have NO need of a car - there is a fantastic new tram system that took years to build and goes everywhere. You're right about the beach - its pebbles and you need to buy those neoprene beach shoes to wear to go down into the sea. The markets are amazing - antiques right thru to fruit. Nights are balmy with street entertainers etc. The old town or "vieux Nice" is atmospheric with streets that feel as though you could reach out and touch the other side. Great post!
