Copacabana beach is directly across the road from “Copacabana” suburb – and the neighborhood is nice. Also, Ipanema beach is about 4-5 blocks away if you want a change of scenery. Copacabana Beach is a long and relatively wide stretch of sand, the backdrop to the beach formed by a line of hotels and restaurants. Many hotels provide guarded loungers and towels for their guests and it is advisable to make use of these facilities if possible.
The beach is the sight of international surfing competitions, beach volleyball and foot-volleyball competitions (a terrific sport to watch if you haven’t seen it before), television shows, and Capoeira demonstrations every week during the summer. Residents of Rio come to the beach for morning and afternoon jogs and walks down the boardwalk and there are bike lanes for the many cyclists that come here. At Copacabana you wake up with the calming blue waters and surf till u drop while refreshing your self on the luscious icy Acai mixed with cereal and frozen fruits. Sundays are the best time to hit the market when it’s closed for driving giving way to carts that sell a variety of items.
The Copacabana Piano Bar invites romantic rendezvous, and the Hotel Cipriani Restaurant, one of the most sophisticated in the city, tempts with fine Italian fare. Just minutes from the center of Rio, this Orient-Express Hotel prides itself on its service, with well-trained professional staff ready to attend to your every wish. Copacabana Fort , which was built in 1914 to defend Guanabara Bay, is situated at the end of the beach and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. The pool does not have a swim up bar which helps to keep the water sparkling clean.
Most of the hotels in this area are in the “famous” Copacabana area. Carefully selected to meet high standards, many are on the beach front Avenue Atlantica facing Copacabana Beach and some on the side streets leading to Copacabana Beach. Guests are within walking distance to the commercial area, filled with many shops, nightclubs and restaurants. It is also close to the business district. Nearby is upscale shopping as well as many of the areas famous landmarks such as Sugarloaf and Corcovado -Christ the Redeemer. Copacabana Palace has been residence to both royalty and some of the world most famous people offering luxurious public areas.
