Tybee was beautiful until the developers got to it. I went with my family in 1986 and it was paradise... the perfect small family vacation.

Now the motel we stayed at has been torn down and replaced by a bunch of cottages no one I know can afford to rent, and I don't know anyone who can afford to stay in Tybee longer than a couple of days anymore.

Now I'm looking for someplace more affordable for a vacation. I am absolutely devastated that the developers have destroyed the Tybee I loved as a child. Actually, I'm outraged. Tybee is now only a destination for the wealthy, unless you want to stay in a dirty, disgusting motel with roaches and rats and drunks who party until 3 AM.

Congratualtions to people like Diane W. Kaufman (above) for totally destroying what used to be the last great refuge for an affordable family beach vacation in Georgia.

If you can afford to pay more than $100 per night for a single motel room, go for it. Otherwise, Tybee is no longer a destination... it's a nightmare.
