A combination of the weather with the beach is the main reason why so many Brits flock to Bournemouth during the summer months. Even with the weather being distorted throughout Western and Northen Europe, you will most definitely find days to apply that sunblock and worship the sun. Get to know a little bit about the sea from Bournemouth airport, to the Bournemouth shed and beach huts. You’ll easily get a room that is beautifully decorated and your child can have their own space (and TV!). The owners at the hotels in this part of the world made you very welcome. It’s like being at home.

Just north of the town you will find Castlepoint Shopping Centre, a brand new, two storey shopping park. All the best and biggest stores are brought together here, so you can shop till you drop! During the summer, there are many activities that take place in the town centre and surrounding beaches like “Sands on the Beach” which is held in Sandbanks. You can listen to live music concerts, have an evening picnic on the beach and watch spectacular firework displays that light up the sky. With two cinemas in Bournemouth town centre, and a multiplex and arts cinema in Poole, you’ll have a great choice of films whatever your tastes.

The Bournemouth resort hotel we chose, had a dramatic cliff top seafront location, is adjacent to the Bournemouth International Centre and within walking distance to the charming town centre. Newly refurbished rooms feature air conditioning, ensuite bathroom, mini-bar, luxurious bedding and high-speed Internet. Nearby and to the north are the larger towns of Poole and Bournemouth. These rocks you see in the pictures are incredible. Once it was believed that the rocks were once connected to The Needles on the Isle of Wight. Perfect location in centre of town and only five minutes’ walk through gardens to Bournemouth’s beautiful beach. Full leisure facilities including indoor pool, restaurant and bar.

Bournemouth beach is the longest beach in England. This is a town that is known -- well, from what we hear -- for Speed Cameras! From here the Sandbanks chain ferry crosses the mouth of Poole Harbour linking to yet more sandy beaches at Shell Bay and Studland. Bournemouth beach is a lovely walk via the cliff top and down the zig-zag to the famous golden sands. Bournemouth International Centre is under a mile away and there is the additional delight of an exciting walk to Bournemouth town centre by way of the seaside promenade and beach front. Bournemouth Beach is zoned into colour coded areas so you can find areas of dog-friendly beach, dog-free beach, smoking free and barbecue areas on the beach. At various places along the seafront in Boscombe and Bournemouth are Bournemouth’s famous beach huts.

Close to the beach are toilet facilities and a small shop selling refreshments and snacks. Indeed, the Sunday Times newspaper recently included some of Bournemouth’s boutiques in its guide to the best shops in Britain. Bournemouth also has over 250 restaurants serving up a whole range of world cuisine from the traditional fish and chips to Lebanese, Thai and Greek dishes, and numerous pavement cafes from which to relax and watch the world go by.

There are non-smoking areas where sun lovers can enjoy the sun in a clean, smoke-free environment. Dogs are banned from the beach during the summer months and must be leashed on the promenade. Many areas of the beach are also dog-free, glass-free and barbecues are also permitted in some zones. The Bournemouth RNLI Beach Rescue Teams and lifeguards are always on-hand and many Bournemouth seafront staff are also nearby if you require assistance. While staying at the Langtry Manor Hotel you will undoubtedly want to visit Bournemouth and the local area. One of the main attractions in Bournemouth is the golden strip of beach front.

Breathe the fresh air and enjoy the stunning views for which Runswick bay is famous afterwards why not pop down into the hotel for a relaxing gin & tonic or a meal in the sea view restaurant. Runswick Bay is a picture perfect village sitting on the side of a headland looking down into a beautiful horse-shoe shaped bay; in short an idyllic and tranquil setting. This couldn’t be more at odds with the surfing breaks in Runswick Bay, which are potentially intense, challenging and exciting waves. Runswick Bay is a perfect location to sail and it is such a pity that the bay is not full of boats.

The current houses located on the edge of Runswick Bay have had their fare share of battering from the weather and in 1862 virtually all of them were demolished by a landslide. Miraculously no-one was injured as the village had been evacuated. Keeping that in mind, and looking toward the hills every few hours, we found a lovely guest room in this wonderful house with four poster beds, spacious sitting areas, working fireplaces, writing desks, and terrycloth robes. The guest rooms in the cottage have double size beds, a bureau, and terrycloth robes. Families can take tours of lighthouses, view the huge murals of Summerside, take a paddling or kayak excursion out on the water, or simply spend a day walking along the beach. Many of the year-long festivities recreate the era in which Anne lived, the scenery at Prince Edward Island has not changed much from when Montgomery lived there.

Parking was a breeze, but more expensive than I thought. But remember, we’re here to check out fossils on the beach. And since we’re here in winter – we’re almost alone! Back to the car parking passes – these cost L5 per day and are valid for parking in any Scarborough Borough Council long stay car park. This has the advantage of you not having to look for change every day. The Boat Park is hidden from the beach by a small bank and offers a safe place to keep your boat away from strong winds in this sheltered area. Fresh water is available to rinse of the saltwater from your boat. Isn’t that neat?

The rich feeding grounds around the Fundy Isles in southwestern New Brunswick make the Bay of Fundy one of the world’s most accessible sites for viewing marine mammals. Every summer whales of all sizes ( up to 15 species of toothed and baleen whales) come to the Bay of Fundy, one of the marine wonders of the world, to mate, play and feast on the bountiful supply of food churned up twice a day by the powerful tides.

A small marina for fishing craft offers a picturesque scene and an attraction for pelicans, while the accompanying fish co-op has a superb range of freshly-caught fish and seafood and a fish-and-chip takeaway.
