Superb beaches, white-washed cube houses and hotels, sophisticated nightlife, non-stop party can picture Mykonos. On the surrounding hills of Mykonos Island, brilliant white sugar cube buildings are highlighted with splashes of color from their bright blue shutters and beautiful flowers, and a row of windmills stands guard looking out to the open sea. Sample cocktails at the swim-up bar, sunbathe on the small, secluded pebble beach and enjoy the sumptuous breakfast buffet on the sea-facing terrace. Prices start from €290 on easyJetHotels.com (powered by hotel specialists Hotelopia). All these beaches are well equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas.
Fun family attractions include the 60,000-square-metre Watermania Park with its thrilling water rides and shows. Mykonos is home to some of Europe’s biggest windsurfing contests and it’s the place to give it a go as the best windsurfing school in Mykonos is located on Kalafatis Beach, right next door to Contiki Resort Mykonos. From beginner lessons to refresher and advanced technique courses, with all the latest windsurfing equipment, here’s your chance to learn from the masters.
Mykonos also attracts world-famous DJs to its clubs and beach bars, the most well-known of which are Paradise, Super Paradise and Paranga. In addition, Mykonos is a gay-friendly resort area during the summer, featuring several gay clubs. For those of you ever in starbeach in crete, this place was 10 times the party spot that was and it was also a campground. I would have LOVED this place about 8 years ago but this time round I couldn’t escape fast enough. Mykonos is also distinctive for its sandy beaches. Many Greek and international celebrities have summer residences in Mykonos and can often be seen walking the white-washed roads or having dinner at a small street-side table of an expensive restaurant or a taverna.
The island is covered in small cafes, coves, hidden beaches with romantic seclusion, so if you’re not into the clubbing scene, you can still enjoy this island in the sun. As for hotels and lodging, you have many choices. Water sports and easy access to the beach. And yes, there is a palpable difference in the atmosphere to what I imagine – or have seen – a typical 18-30 holiday to be. There is no beach and to get to one you have to take a boat, a taxi or walk for miles. The beaches are topless or nude – nobody seems to care and it all seems quite normal.
It grew up here because of the peaceful location, the glorious long stretch of beach, and its proximity to Mykonos Town, which is just a 10-minute bus ride away. It offers sophisticated facilities including a selection of stylish, high-class hotels, villas, apartments and rooms to rent, numerous seafood tavernas with open-air terraces overlooking the water, plus travel agencies offering excursions and car rental companies. Corfu is all culture and architecture (and plenty of it), and amazing beaches. Mykonos is primarily party, but also has unique local (Cycladic) architecture. The island of Mykonos has nice white sand beaches and crystal waters. Mykonos Town or chora is famous and is the queen of Cycladic islands. One of the most crawed places of Mykonos Town is Little Venice.
The most famous club on the island is trend-setting Cavo Paradiso built on a rock overlooking Paradise Beach. The party gets going at around 3-4am and clubbers dance until mid-morning either by or in the Mykonos-shaped swimming pool. Buses to Paradise beach leave from the town. There is a large camping site located just behind the beach as well as numerous diving and water sports resources. Paradise beach is a popular spot for nudists and, each night, the entire beach turns into a sort of outdoor dance club on which people dance and party until dawn.
Kalo Livadi is a quiet excellent beach. Nudists, round-the-clock party people, families and those seeking a break from the madness of Mykonos will all be able to find a beach that fits their taste. The beaches on the south shore of the island have the best sand, view and are protected from the Meltemi, the local Cycladic wind. The best party beach is Paradise Beach-loud music and dancing even during the day. Clubs tend to rotate a bit from year to year, and I haven’t been in a couple of years.
