Antigua is a hilly island with a heavily indented coast, while Barbuda is a flat coral island dominated by a large lagoon on its western side. Anglicanism is the predominant religion. There is a Frigate bird sanctuary in Barbuda and there are other wonderful and interesting things to see for those who love nature. Barbuda has pink and white sand beaches, happy people and sun and fun.
And the fascinating little island of Barbuda — once a scavenger’s paradise because so many ships wrecked on its reefs — is now home to one of the region’s most significant bird sanctuaries. Enjoy steel band, calypso and reggae music while wriggling your toes in the sand of one of the many beaches surrounding these two islands.
Whether you are yachting in the area, staying at an exclusive resort or exploring the historic sites of English Harbour, Antigua and Barbuda have a lot to offer. Much of the island is covered in bush and there are unmarked roads and tracks to the beaches. It is possible to cycle almost as easily as driving, as speed is of no importance here.
