Lying 130 miles southeast of Nassau, small, boot-shaped CAT ISLAND is a relaxed and unspoiled place with sparkling beaches, small settlements and a few sizeable hills. The southern end of the island presents great opportunities for diving, with steep cliffs and offshore reefs, while the entire east coast , accessible only by dirt roads, offers a continuous strand of idyllic seaside, with hidden coves and rugged shores. Laid back and unhurried, Cat stretches for 50 miles from the north to the south, and is surrounded with white sand beaches, coconut palms and smiling faces.
From these high cliffs, there is a marvelous view down to densely-forested foothills and 60 miles of deserted pink-and-white-sand beach. With a population under 2,000, you’ll be able to enjoy quiet walks on the beautiful beaches .including the eight mile long “Pink Sand Beach“. The beach gradually extends, coral free, far into the water. There is virtually no undertow or large wave in this cove.
Enjoy the panoramic views of the beach and the main house. Check out the activities, then book your room with our contact form before someone else does! With high elevations, miles of pink sand beaches and calm waters this property has everything you could ever want or need in a vacation home. Greenwood Beach Resort in Port Howe advertises diving but when I went it had supposedly closed its dive shop. The wall extends on for 12 miles along this coastal length, dropping to 1800 m depth but with a fringing coral reef on its shore side then patch reefs between that and the actual shore.
Cat Island has miles and miles of deserted beaches on both coasts beautiful for relaxing and exploring.
At the top of the limestone cliffs rests a small, medieval monastery built by Father Jerome, a hermit well-known for building cathedrals and convents throughout the islands. From these high cliffs, there is a marvelous view down to densely-forested foothills and 60 miles of deserted pink-and-white-sand beach. The highest point is 200 feet above sea level and it is brimmed with cliffs as well as tropical forests. This island has much deeper soil than most of the other islands of The Bahamas, which is actually tops of sand dunes from ancient plains.
