With the advent of the World Cup and the Olympics in Brazil, one starts wondering what other treasures this wonderful country holds. And it’s no secret that Rio is the capital for relaxation and fun when thinking of Brazil. It’s here that Carnaval explodes in crazy colors and dancing with the most beautiful women in the southern hemisphere. Okay - that is subjective - Brazilians will quickly correct you that they are the best in all of the world. Sim senhor!

This is Guanabara Bay and the view of Sugar Loaf Mountain in the background. Note that the sand is tan when wet but is pretty white and beautiful when dry. This is around noon, but in the cooler season of July-August when the water is a tad cold. Still, it is rare that not many people are on the beach in this photo.
One thing very cool about Rio is that it is mountains cascading down into the Atlantic Ocean. Wow - what views, no? And remember because we are facing EAST - you can sneak down here at the crack of dawn and take some very nice pictures of sunrises and the beach.
Okay, this next photo is really cool and this is one place you can find the Girl from Ipanema shopping for some culture. Oh, and before I forget, there are some very nice restaurants that line this plaza - Praça General Osório - and why Hippie? Well, this fair was started by hippies in the 1960′s. Hey, it’s still going strong!
This is the Hippie Fair in Rio. It’s been here forever and is on Sundays. Ask a taxi to take you there and you’ll find the best in regional art and crafts and some very awesome painting. Watch your purse! But take home some culture.
