The sea welcomes the sun seeker in comfort and style. An array of colours, which one can quickly identify by the rows of neatly laid out sun umbrellas and deck chairs, which seem to almost dot the entire seashore. It’s also worth bearing in mind that because the sea is much closer than in many other mountainous areas, the heights given for the Abruzzo region actually represent much steeper climbing. Here alone there are around 40 different routes. Close to the main centre of Vasto, we stayed in a nearly new apartment on the first floor of a condominium. With lift/elevator and stairs, the property had three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

A bargain should be made previously, tutto compreso, a gratuity being added if the traveller is satisfied. The donkey-drivers have an unpleasant habit of inciting their animals to the top of their speed when passing through a town or village and it is well to warn them beforehand that their ‘mancia’ [gratuity] will suffer if they do not go quietly through the streets.” But Vasto Marina has over fifty restaurants and many bars. Concerts are held in the summer in the outdoor arena at the Parco delle Farfalle as well, in the town centre and in the historic setting of the mediaeval St James and St Phillip Church. In the Middle Ages it came under the Lombards and then under the Franks, that razed it to the ground it in 802 AD. It was reconstructed by the “gastaldo” (=governor) Aymone of Dordona from whose name Guasto d’Aymone (Wast meant “gastaldo” in the original language), subsequently changed in Vasto.

Within walking distance of the beaches, nightlife, fine cuisine and historical sites, Villa Monteferrante is ideal for families and romantic getaways, a perfect setting for sunbathing or chilling-out for true al fresco living. Located in a tranquil area, just 150 metres away from the sea, and yet only a 5 minute drive from Vasto’s stirring nightlife, this hotel is ideal for those longing to relax and unwind. During your stay you can make the most of the hotel’s flagship facilities, which include an extensive beauty farm with a fitness area, sauna, steam room, massage parlour and thermal cabin.

An alternative itinerary is to abandon motorway A14/E35 at the exit “Vasto Sud”, which is really close to the hotel. Hotel San Giorgio is a new and modern building; it is located at 50 meters from the sea and at the center of Vasto Marina. Living room, hall, restaurant, bar, TV room all with air conditioning. The hotel offers a parking area. On the ground floor of the complex are several businesses a fitness center, bookshop, boutique and bank.
