Manly beach is beautiful and has massive waves. Now, a friend has lived in the Northern Beaches her whole life and tells us that Manly Beach is beautiful but its not the most beautiful beach. She also tells us it has become super touristy making it not as wonderful as the other beaches that she will show us. Manly beach is one of Sydney’s most famous beaches (after Bondi). It was a lovely day and is a pretty walk.
Manly Beach is much larger, and thanks partly to the fact that it’s more difficult to reach from the Central Business District, it’s much more authentically local as well. The manly beach is actually quite small from the looks of it, but is famous for its water sports, water skiing and surfing. When we reached manly beach, it was raining and we couldn’t go to the beach. Manly Beach is on the North Shore -- the opposite shore to us -- so a ferry trip is needed to get to there. It takes 30 mins and passes some of Sydney’s best landmarks on the way.
Manly Beach is known for its surfing waves, so with no board in hand many of us went body surfing. We swam and laid out on the sand for hours. Manly beach is a popular beach destination for tourists who visit Australia. The beach is well placed, as it is just minutes away from Sydney. Manly Beach is a cute, relaxed, more casual area of Sydney that reminds me a bit of Santa Cruz. We walked up Manly Wharf, full of cafes and shops, which was a thoroughfare between the ferry station and the beach itself.
Photos do not do it justice. If you’re in Sydney, try to get out there -- if you have a car it’s very easy and if not, it only took me about 30 minutes to walk out there from Manly -- because the view is spectacular.
There were dozens of blue bottle jellyfish washing up on the shore though, and they kept making announcements to try to stay out of the water. I think a decent amount of people got stung. I don’t know if that’s typical of Manly Beach or if we just picked a bad day to go. There was this cool ‘rock pool’ which is made of rocks from the sea, cemented together, w sea water in them but right at the oceans edge.
Once we got to the beach, we walked north a bit to escape the hoards and planted ourselves right by where they were giving surf lessons to the kids. We got a kick out of watching both them and the three instructors trying to control their group of twenty.

The picture in the middle is great though it’s crowded with beach goers. This beach must be nice.
