Siesta Key Beach, Sarasota, Florida

Siesta Key Public Beach, Sarasota, Florida

Siesta Key has a youthful spirit that is drawn to the glassine waters and quartz-crystal white sands, which have been officially ranked as the “finest, whitest sand beach in the world.” Siesta Beach is energized. Best of all, though, is giving in to afternoon “siestas” in the sun, either swaying on comfy floats atop gentle waves or on shore near the lapping waterline. Siesta Beach is one of the largest beaches in the area, but its of land might not have become the wide and deep expanse of public-accessible beachfront they are today. A fellow named Kiesow could be credited with single-handedly making certain that this beachfront—then, as always coveted by real estate developers and builders—would not later become filled with homes, condos and hotels, as are much of the rest of the Gulf of Mexico’s beachfronts.

The stores there can meet all your vacation needs: swimwear, sandals and gifts, bike or car rentals, food or beverage requirements. In the evening you have a wide range of restaurants to choose from – from the simple to the gourmet. Siesta Key Florida has been voted one of the best white sands beaches in the world. In the past 10 years, the demand for fine vacation accommodations climbed to an all new high. With the beach and the pool located within easy walking distance of the house there is no need to get into your car to enjoy swimming or relaxing on the sand. Within 15 to 20 minutes of the house, you will find a Publix supermarket, the Gulf Breeze Zoo, The Breeze movie theater, a children’s park, a variety of restaurants and fast food places, and numerous golf courses.

Siesta Key beaches are nearly pure quartz sand and are renowned by travel experts and beach lovers the world over. Miles of white powder stretch along the Gulf of Mexico, treating toes to an uncommon luxury. I’m not sure why it’s the second best beach in the country, since it’s only redeeming features seem to be it’s expansive width and it’s nice white sand. Unfortunately, you couldn’t much see either of those benefits for all the people there. The beach sand of Siesta Key is made up of 99% quartz and is actually rated as one of the most attractive and beautiful beaches in the world. It was Harry Higel, a fiery outspoken man who was involved in bitter political fights, who gave Siesta Key its name.

Sarasota, FL

It lies about 55 miles south of Tampa and 255 miles north west of Miami. The old-Florida, Tropical charm pervades this hideaway. Siesta Key is a barrier island, eight miles long, directly on the Gulf of Mexico. Blessed with the world’s finest white sand beaches, unique restaurants, resorts, shopping and nightlife, Siesta Key offers a unique ambiance for visitors and residents alike.

Picnic pavilions are available for groups at a nominal fee. Water sports of every kind add color and excitement to the Siesta Beach scene. Group and small sized picnic shelters are available. Come early, the 800 car parking lot fills up fast.

I love this beach. Though, I am pretty prejudiced against other beaches. This is my home town. And every other beach I’ve seen so far in the Navy has been “State-side” and nothing has yet to compare. Now I haven’t been to major beaches in FL, like South Beach or the Keys. Though, I have been stationed in other major cities in several states and their beaches do not have the beautiful sunsets nor the baby-powder soft/white sand that I miss so much. It is an excellent beach to visit, and a great place to live.

As a former resident of Sarasota, I thought Siesta was the least of all the area beaches.

Next time you’re there, check out Longboat Key, Anna Maria Island and all the beaches in between. There are a number of very beautiful beaches in that area.
