Kaanapali Beach is approximately three miles long, and is divided by a lava cliff, known commonly as “Black Rock” and by the Hawaiians as Puu Kekaa. Each evening at sunset, there is ceremonial torch lighting and cliff diving at Black Rock, as sunny days give way to starry nights, this tradition enthralls our visitors and has become a resort signature.
The combination of great ocean conditions and the seemingly endless white sand make snorkeling Black Rock at Kaanapali the complete beach experience. Snorkel in the warm waters of Kaanapali and you will see Honu Green Sea Turtles, tropical fish of all colors, and eels and octupi The lava rock point in the picture is world famous Black Rock. The torches atop Black Rock at the Sheraton also offer for unforgettable scenery. If you enjoy watching the stars, bring a towel or beach blanket and you’re in heaven.
The nearshore waters near Honokowai are rocky and a reef begins. Directly out in front of the park is a nice reef and when conditions are right, the snorkeling here is far better than Blackrock (IMHO). And as a previous poster has said, this beach is far less busy than it’s cousin to the south. This is a beautiful sandy beach with the famous Black Rock at the north end. It is one of the best snorkeling spots on the island.
