The beauty of this beach is equaled by the pounding of the ocean along its shore. Access at the western end is directly off Kuhio Highway. This sandbar is actually an unusual phenomenon that occurs when ocean currents rush toward the beach from opposite directions and deposit their sand forming a tombolo. It is a 350 yard stroll along the ocean. It enjoys one of the most beautiful oceanfront settings found anywhere in all of Hawaii. Situated on a low bluff just 35 feet from the warm tropical waters of the blue Pacific Ocean, Poipu Shores offers those planning a vacation to Kauai some of the most spectacular close up ocean views found anywhere in Kauai. Watch the sun set into the ocean, and drift off to sleep each night with the sound of the waves at your doorstep.
The ocean views from the living room and kitchen also provide an occasional glimpse of whales frolicking (seasonal) and dolphins and turtles in the clear blue waters. You will enjoy your own balcony to see the sunsets, bright stars and a peek of the ocean. Housekeeping will service your suite daily and breakfast is included from 8 to 9AM daily. Granted, there are similar islands (ocean/sand) in the world, but none quite kept as pristine as the Hawaiian island. So expect a nice clean beach.
Beach, the crystal clear waters off Poipu Beach are great for snorkeling, swimming, and surfing. Kids in particular will enjoy the natural wading pool here. Most Kauai beaches have picnic tables and facilities, others are perfect for water sports, including swimming, snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, fishing, as well as beach volleyball. The sheltered coves of Poipu, with their gentle surf, are the perfect spots to learn to surf or snorkel. The swimming here is idyllic.
Only 200 yards away, you will find the blue Pacific and the east end of Brennecke’s Beach, and Poipu Beach Park. There are many safe and fun places to play surrounding this large, well kept beach park where you can swim or snorkel, see the endangered Green Sea Turtles and an occasional Monk Seal, or just wade in the children’s pool at the day’s end and watch a gorgeous Poipu sunset. Enjoy the small pool w/BBQ area or take a ten minute stroll down to Poipu Beach Park for a dip in the ocean or challenge your body boarding skills at Brenneckes Beach. Spouting Horn is a short five minute drive or visit the nearby Allerton Gardens in Lawai.
A mile from Poipu Beach Park, this modest plantation style home overlooks the sacred Hawaiian site where the ocean greets Waikomo Stream. Just a few steps down a stairway of lava rock and you’re in the stream where the giant green sea turtles often rest and feed.
