John Smith's Bay - Beach

The beach at John Smith’s Bay is a long stretch of flat open sand, and is backed by the residence and South Road. These pretty-in-pink shores are an ideal place to bring the family.

Although some of the beaches in Bermuda are more secluded than John Smith’s Bay the natural setting, personality and other qualities provided by this location might be just what the doctor ordered.

Seclusion and privacy are part of the draw to Bermuda’s beaches, and you’ll find a bit of that style of travel at John Smith’s Bay though you’ll never be too far away, either. With cities nearby but not too close you won’t lack for anything.

John Smith's Bay Beach

Many visitors feel that the level of activity at a beach and its amenities are important. For others, opportunities for privacy and spending a relaxing day in the sun are extremely important. There are plenty of beaches in Bermuda, and John Smith’s Bay may be the perfect beach for you.

You can swim in the John’s Smith Bay, but be aware that the surf can get pretty rough the further out into the water you go. There is a reef structure off of the coast where vibrant tropical fish flourish. Swimming is better closer to shore where the waters are pretty shallow.

How crowded the beach is depends on a few things, including the season and time of day. A few of Bermuda’s beaches may hardly ever be crowded, while others are frequently crowded especially during the high tourism season. When considering a day at the beach, an important thing to keep in mind might be, at least for some vacationers, the crowds you’ll meet. While some prefer a crowded beach filled with people and activity, many would prefer to just relax in a quiet area.

John Smith's Bay, Bermuda

Like everything else about Bermuda this beach has a distinctive quality which will attract certain visitors. The personality of this beach is rather different from what you’ll discover in other parts of Bermuda. During the months of May until September, there’s a life guard on duty at the John Smith’s Bay beach. This is great for beachgoers with children, who can swim during the summer under the watchful eye of a life guard. During the weekend and on holidays, this beach is a popular spot, especially among the islanders. Younger crowds throw parties in the park area near the beach, and you’ll find that this beach has a very festive atmosphere.
