It’s a coral island, and the underlying “rock” is coral. Hard as rock, though, as the bumpy roads will attest. There is a sanctuary located on the island for flamingos, ospreys and terns which is supervised by the National Parks Trust. All of these places are right down the road from the Setting Point dock and the Anegada Reef Hotel - this seems to be the up and coming “spot” on the island. In central portions of the island where shelter from overwash and salt winds allow, tree communities occur. The majority of large trees in these forests are evergreen, with loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) being the dominant. Anegada villa rentals do differ from many other islands in our Caribbean villa rental inventory. However, for those looking to explore something off the beaten track, Anegada rental villas will provide a truly unique experience.

The waves from the often-wild Atlantic Ocean crash onto the barrier reef several hundred yards offshore; smaller waves make their way onto the beach, depositing intriguing ocean riffraff. Beach quality varies along the shore depending on predominant currents and waves, but nowhere are the beaches rough or rocky.
Built in England in 1865, the RMS Rhone was a stately ship designed to carry cargo throughout the spice route. In 1866, her owners decided to retrofit her with fancy cabins, salons, and dining halls thus turning her into a beautiful cruising ship. The reef has claimed hundreds of shipwrecks, including HMS Astraea (1808), the Donna Paula (1819), the MS Rocus (1929) - As such, it was once an important scuba diving destination. In an effort to protect the reef, the BVI government has made anchoring on Horseshoe Reef illegal.
A staircase leads to the lower level - a very large sun deck paved with cool flagstones and dotted with chaise lounges for sun worshippers, edged by the large pool overlooking Mahoe Bay. At the rear of the sun deck is a shaded gallery with patio furniture and a wet bar with fridge.
