Big storms up in Alaska send large open ocean swells 2000 miles across the Pacific Ocean where they eventually meet up the the coral reefs of the north shore. These waves reach great heights and surfers from around the world rise to the occasion to get the thrill only a surfer could know! Newly completed, this luxurious home sits on the North Shore at one of the worlds most famous beaches. The Blue Wave house has nearly 4000 sq ft, an unmatched view of the beach and sunsets from dining room, private loft/study, master bedroom, and mini-master. In the winter the waves are so high that the shore is lined with spectators watching the derring-do of the best surfers in the world. If you’re not a very accomplished swimmer and familiar with the ocean, stay out of the water.

That’s when professional surfers and fans descend on Hale’iwa and the North Shore. The water is calm during the remainder of the year and perfect for swimming, snorkeling and diving. On Wednesday, September 6, word began to flow sadly out of Hawaii that legendary surf and skate photographer Warren Bolster had taken his own life. Born in Arlington, Virginia, in 1947, Bolster traveled the world with his father who was in the foreign service. Pipeline is home to the world’s longest running and most prestigious professional surfing event: The Billabong Pipeline Masters. This event is held during the peak period for large swells and offer spectators an energizing experience!
When planning a day trip to see the waves, be sure to arrive on the North Shore early in the morning to avoid stop and go traffic and also give yourself plenty of time to leave if needed. Large, open swells march in unobstructed and rise up on the swallow reef breaking in just a few feet of water and this is what produces the spectacular “pipe” or tube that you see in so many famous videos and pictures. A short walk will take you to the shores of Magic Island, world-class shopping at Ala Moana Center or the heart of Waikiki. As you step up our spirited porte-cochere, you’ll know life is different here. During the winter months (approximately October to February) the North Shore produces monstrous waves reaching heights of 20 feet and higher. This can prove dangerous for even the experienced waterman/woman.
