Keawakapu Beach and Condos - Kihei Maui

Keawakapu beach is a gentle beach - great for children - and there is excellent snorkeling on the underwater reef just off the right side of the beach. The photos above and to the right are the views from our lanai. Keawakapu Beach is a short stroll from the Palms at Wailea where you can snorkel along its rocky northern terminus, boogie board or take long tropical beach walks. Wireless internet is available at most club houses and pools. Keawakapu Beach is just minutes away, offering terrific boogie-boarding and long, tropical- fantasy walks. The Kam can take you there.

Keawakapu Beach is an awesome beach for kids, with really fine sand and a nice snorkeling area on one end. I saw sea turtles and lots of cool fish snorkeling around the reef next to the Mana Kai. Keawakapu Beach is regarded as one of the most scenic beaches on Maui. Keawakapu beach is one mile long with white sand for swimming, and a lava flow at one end for snorkeling. There is a beautiful free-form swimming pool by the ocean with lounge chairs.

Snorkeling is popular as the water is teeming with turtles and fish, while sunbathing is pleasant and relaxing on the sparkling water sand. For those traveling with children, the water is safe for swimming and if you decide to venture into the water while your children play in the sand, you can keep a close eye on them since the entire beach is visible from the water. Snorkeling is fair around the rocky outcroppings and best enjoyed in the summer when water conditions are calm. Lying in the offshore waters of south Keawakapu Beach is an artificial reef. Snorkeling to see the sea turtles wasn't necessary. They were three or four feet from shore surfing in the waves.

Maui has a wonderful resource of coastal areas and beaches that are the gateway to the ocean, The Hawaiian culture respected the Aina (land) and the Kai (ocean). There has been a system of rules (Kapu) that have governed the use of these resources, and to protect the resources from overuse. Maui has 42 miles of uncrowded sandy beaches along its 120 miles sunny coastline. With climate varies with average temperatures from 72 F to 79 F, it is a perfect place for outdoor sports and beach activities. Maui's wonders never cease You can't get much better than this Hawaiian island, with its sunny western coast lined with gorgeous white-sand beaches, and its warm ocean waters teeming with humpback whales. What's more, you can drive among jungle and waterfalls, windsurf with the pros at Hookipa Beach or enjoy a drink at Lahaina's historic taverns - the options are dizzying and endless.

Kama'ole Beach Parks - Kihei

Frisbees sail, stereos blast, and tiny children splash in the equally tiny waves. The small waves create an easy spot to launch from for ocean kayaking fun. Welcome to Kamaole Beach Park - you can easily walk to the Old Lahaina Town shopping area. Generally, the winds come up in the afternoon causing larger waves, wind chop and murky water. Be sure to wear sunscreen.

Beginning from your Maui "home" at Kamaole Nalu Oceanfront or other Resort, here are just a few things - what you can expect to see and experience during your Maui vacation. When you come to Maui, bring your camera, your camcorder or a palate, canvas and paint brushes. Enjoy a long romantic walk from north Kihei to Maalaea on one of Maui's most beautiful stretches of oceanfront. Whale watch as you enjoy the magnificent views.

Enjoy swimming, snorkeling, walking or boogie boarding, as well as magnificent ocean and sunset views. Condos near Kamaole Beach Park in Kihei offer large swimming pools, Jacuzzi, sauna, exercise room, tennis courts, barbecue facilities, putting green, shuffleboard, croquet, volleyball court and an activities tour desk. Choose from units with panoramic ocean views or garden views.

Kamaole gets it's name because the central plains area, when viewed from the air, looks like a big valley sitting between the two volcanoes that formed this Island. The Island of Maui's flower is the Lokelani rose and the island's color is pink. Kamaole hotels and condos are cool because we found a children's wading pool and shopping, dining, golf and water sports are all available nearby.

The large grassy areas near this area a very parky feel. There are volleyball courts and a nearby skate park if the beach isn't enough. Four tennis courts and eight BBQ areas, and ample free parking can also be found on many beautifully manicured grounds. Enjoy a cool swim in the pool or take a leisurely stroll across the street to enchanting Kamaole Beach Park III.

To get there, just follow South Kihei Road south to the end (don't turn left onto Okalani Drive up the hill). Continue straight to the parking lot. Kihei is a sprawly place, strung out along the coast for several miles but never more than a mile wide. The main road north-south along the ocean is South Kihei Road and it contains almost all the hotels, condos, restaurants, shops and beaches. Convenient to everything in Kihei and close to Wailea as well. The South Coast has the BEST snorkeling and diving and we were so close.

Big Beach is the longest, undeveloped white sand beach on Maui, so it attracts many people who are looking for a beach with no homes and no hotels. Only sand dunes covered with kiawe trees occupy the back shore. Maui's Kahului airport is a short 20 to 25 minutes drive away. Grilling is often our dinner of choice both because of the variety and quality of fish, chicken and steaks on Maui and because our kids are exhausted by the end of the day. We do manage to take advantage of the many nearby restaurants from time to time and will happily share our favorites with you.
