Best U.S. Beaches

by Dave Jackson

Maybe this could give me some guidance on where to take a vacation. The results were interesting and made me think about a few things. Or maybe one of these beach getaways best matches your vacation style: the eccentric, laid-back Florida Keys, rowdy Corpus Christi or athletic, lighthearted Santa Cruz. Wondering how clean the water is at your favorite vacation spot? Finding an answer can be tricky. The site has lots of valuable information to aid tourists in planning their vacation activities. A must for the first-time and repeat tourist alike! Travel industry statistics indicate that the majority of summer vacations will be to beach destinations, with many of them being close to home.

With this in mind, our staff has traveled to destinations from Massachusetts to Hawaii, talked with family travel experts, readers and parent groups, surveyed kids and teens, researched a wide variety of beach towns, combed through scores of travel guides, and even reviewed the findings of Three Best Beaches.

Waikoloa Beach Resort is nestled around the beautiful crescent-shaped white sand beach, ‘Anaeho’omalu Bay (A-Bay), that is just a short walk away from your Hawaiian hale. A-Bay is great for snorkeling, relaxing or enjoying a wide variety of water sports. With complete practice facilities available and a Pro Shop stocked with golf equipment and accessories the Waikoloa Village Golf Course is a great place to practice, shop and play. Waikoloa area was very nice, but shocking to see all the lava everywhere from the airport to the Vacation Club building.

The east (Tampa Bay side) has course sand and shell beaches while the south (Gulf) side exhibits those fine white sand beaches that Dr. Beach is so fond of. Swimming (best at Airport Beach area), shelling (especially on the north end) and general beachcombing along the 16-mile long shore are popular activities. It’s also fun to ride bicycles through the historic village of Ocracoke, located on the south end of the island. You get a great view of the water and the beaches from the top part of the fort. Also, be sure to walk out on the piers, filled with folks fishing.

Walking, bicycling, and rollerblading are all popular ways to explore Hollywood’s Florida’s boardwalk and experience all the small shops, cafe’s and other attractions. Hollywood has an expansive beach of pristine sand that is perfect for spending many hours absorbing the sun in your favorite swimsuit . Enjoy strolling along the Hollywood Boardwalk, taking in miles of gorgeous sandy beaches, outdoor cafes and restaurants, and local shops. On the beach side of the boardwalk are palm trees and showers every block to wash the sand off.
