Beach Campgrounds in Florida

by Dave Jackson

Go south on Hwy 331 until you reach Hwy 98. Proceed 1 mile and turn right (south) on County Road 283. Just a few miles southwest of Bahia Honda is Big Pine Key, primary habitat of one of the United States rarest, most threatened and cutest animal species, the Key deer. These small deer, a sub species of the Virginia whitetail, stand only two to three feet high at the shoulder. After a brief introduction, the book divides into four sections: west, north, central, and south Florida. For each section there is an outline map locating the camps and major towns and cities.

Then I headed south to Cayo Coasta State Park, whsere the ferry took me out to the quiet island getaway. Trail on South side of I75 has a well worn trail, and is suggested for a first trip. It is a unique eco systems that should be seen at least once. From the Northwest, take I-10 to highway 85 south until you reach highway 98. Drive east for approximately 10 miles and you will see signs for the park on the right.

In addition to white sands and emerald green water, the park also features an amphitheater, a boat ramp, nature trails, and, of course, campgrounds. Beach’s list from the Florida Keys, Bahia Honda features two-and-a-half miles of palm fringed, white sand beaches. When you come on your Daytona Beach camping trip, plan to get out into the water, too. There are a number of water parks in the region, which are a good idea for hot summer days. No matter how you like to camp, you’ll enjoy camping at North Beach Camp Resort at reasonable rates !

The campground has plenty of room with 350 sites, as well as a large recreation hall for group events, a great pool, a playground and RV storage. Just like the visitors that come to camp and enjoy the park and its surroundings, so to are the marine animals attracted. We want to do everything we can to coexist in harmony with the island and all of its visitors - above and below the water. A “Key Information” section provides explicit directions to each campground and such pertinent data as websites, phone numbers, fees, campsite and reservation availability, regulations, and more. A section called “Human and Natural History” describes the area’s unusual flora or fauna and the effects of human interaction with the environment.

The gorgeous sugar sand beaches, emerald green waters and sand dunes are the stars of the show. Bring your tent or RV & enjoy great cabins there too. All of these elements are impossible on a sandy beach, so that’s another probable reason for the dearth of beach camping spots. Daytona Beach is renowned for it`s 23 miles of white sand coastline. Whether your fancy is sunning, surfing, snorkeling, shelling, shopping, sunset watching, treasure hunting, birding or just plain relaxing, there are many more miles of beaches to choose from and plenty of beach camping parks and campgrounds from which to start your holiday fun.
