Amagansett is a charming town just 4 miles east of East Hampton, filled with art galleries, antique stores, restaurants and shops. Just up the street from the house is Amagansett Square, a very pretty park surrounded by shops, a day spa and an acclaimed restaurant.
In the wee hours of June 13, l942, four German saboteurs in a rubber boat launched by a Nazi submarine landed at Amagansett, bent on committing mayhem in this country. Becoming so popular by the 1970’s, Bobby Van decided to move the restaurant across the street in order to accommodate more guests. He continued playing his piano and entertaining guests at the Bridgehampton restaurant for over twenty years until he decided to retire in 1992. Rufus Wainwright, with his special guest Jessye Norman, will headlined concert, which began with a set by the highly acclaimed songwriter and singer Daniel Knox. Tickets ranged from $125 to $500, the latter price including access to a backstage meet-and-greet with the artists after the show.
