The Best Beaches of the World

Summer is here and the beaches across the globe are waiting for you. Three Best Beaches has a great selection of family friendly beaches, and those you just want to be alone and curl up with your favorite book.

We travel across the globe to review beaches, but today we’re going to look at the beaches Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman who is known as “Dr. Beach” designated his Top 10 American Beaches for 2010.

We’ll run them down quickly here and you can read more about them inside. Choose one close to you and Enjoy!

Coopers Beach in Southampton, New York (NATIONAL WINNER)

This is a charming beach that is in the south area of Long Island, New York. There’s nice beach all along Long Island, but this short stretch takes the number one spot as the best beach. Coopers Beach is protected. The cold Labrador currents don’t make it this close to shore.

It’s expensive, one of the most on this coast, but there are ways to make this happen if you’re running on a limited budget, read more.

#2 - Siesta Beach, Sarasota, FL

We walked this beach a few months ago and the sand is still spectacular white and is as wide as a beach can be so that means there’s plenty of space and crunchy sand for everyone.

People who collect sand from across the globe want a bit of Siesta Beach on Siesta Key in Sarasota. It’s great everything here - tanning, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving. You can find out more here.

#3 - Coronado Beach, San Diego

This is one of the more interesting beaches in that it was named after the hotel you see in the background. The climate around southern California is very Mediterranean, so you’ll feel as if you’re in some spot in Italy or France when you walk around the hotel grounds.

Food, beach, sun… what more could one want? The beach is clean and the water sparkling. Watch the ships go by here and get a nice tan at the same time. Plenty of parking and nice facilities.

#4 - Cape Hatteras, Outer Banks

You know how some land sticks way out into the ocean and you always wanted to explore and see if you could find something? Cape Hatteras has that mystery built in, along with some pretty historic roots, like Kitty Hawk.

This was the first National Seashore and has some of the best surfing along the whole East Coast. But more than that are the quaint little towns that make up the culture and feel of North Carolina and the coast.

#5 - Main Beach in East Hampton, New York

This has to be the green beach of the list with a conservation area over 300 years old right off the beach. Main Beach in East Hampton is beautiful quartz sand and has pretty sand dunes as well as clean, blue water.

And green extends to transportation. The easiest way to get around here is by bike!

Many a Hollywood artist has been seen here, so keep your eyes peeled. They’re around.

#6 Kahanamoku Beach, Waikiki

Named after the Father of Modern Surfing, Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, who was also a Hawaiian born Olympic gold medalist in swimming. This beach is awesome; think Blue Lagoon. But lots of action here, so we think it’s great for people watching.

You can watch this beach on a live web cam 24/7. We used to stream it here in the office, but they limited our view on paradise to five minutes.

This is a perfect family beach. Just look!

#7 Coast Guard Beach, Cape Cod

You can bus here, or bike here, so you have to park and ride, but it’s well worth it. Coarse sand makes for a steep shoreline, but the view is awesome.

Chilly water almost year-round, you’ll find hardly anyone in the water. It’s that cold. But you might want to cool off from the sun. Dare you!

The sea can get rough here, especially when there is a tropical storm passing offshore.

#8 Beachwalker Park, So Carolina

Not far from Charleston, this park is on beautiful Kiawah Island, at the very southern tip. Golf and tennis abound as well as treks through the nature centers throughout the island. Murky water because of the sandy clay mixture, but clean.

And a fun thing about Beachwalker is that hardly anyone walks. The sand is so compact, most move around by bike.

Stay for the seafood and culture. The kids will love it and you will, too.

#9 Hamoa Beach, Maui

This has to be one of our favorites. What can you say to the sound of surf surrounded by coconut palms and beautiful flowers? This is the top beach in Maui and for good reason; it’s wonderful lava/coral sand mix and picturesque lava formations make it stunning.

It’s on the famous “Road to Hana” which has over 50 one-way bridges where you have to wait for on-coming traffic which winds around the thousands of hills and cliff. What a postcard.

#10 Cape Florida State Park

Just off the shore of Miami, Florida is a “Key” with a white coral sand beach. Dr. Beach gave it number 10. There’s a lighthouse here that you can climb up and take pictures from.

Because of a shoal offshore, there are not many waves so it’s great here for swimming. The park gets busy around holidays, so plan to arrive real early.

And look! You can ride horses here. There are bike trails and walking trails along with picnic areas.

We’re expanding Australia. Many beaches and flavors in the land down under. In fact, we get requests all the time to review beaches that are off the beaten path. Australia is home to one of the longest beaches in the world. So come visit this paradise…..Beaches Down Under - what everyone is talking about.
