Who knew an old, weathered Coast Guard Station would birth the number 7 beach on Dr. Beach’s list of the top 10 beaches in America for 2010. Yet it did and with good reason. Easy to get to, which means it can get crowded, Coast Guard Beach in Cape Cod is one of those places where two forces of nature meet. You have what looks to be an old glacial cliff and the remaining sand as it fingers its way around to form a beach area.

Kalmus Beach in Hyannis, Massachusetts just might be a super choice for your summer outing. The beach is neatly divided between wind and kite surfers and the rest of us, but more on that in a minute. What is charming about this place is that the Kennedy family thought it wonderful enough to call it home away from home for many decades.

If you want to see the Kennedy Compound, you won’t be able to from the road. The best way we found is by taking a sightseeing cruise and having it pointed out to you. Find Hyannis Cape Cod sightseeing and book a tour. You have to see it if you’re going to be in the area anyway.

Martha’s Vineyard Beach

by Dave Jackson

Martha’s Vineyard is an island located 6 miles off the coast of Cape Cod Massachusetts. To get to Martha’s Vineyard you must take either a plane or a ferry, there are NO bridges or tunnels connecting Martha’s Vineyard to the mainland. The most common method of transportation to the island of Martha’s Vineyard is by ferry. There are quite a few different ferries you can take, but if you would like to bring a car across your only option is the Steamship Authority ferry that leaves from Wood’s Hole. Passenger ferries leave from Rhode Island, New Bedford, Falmouth, and Hyannis, but make sure to check the schedules for the different ferries as many ferries only run in season (May - September).
