Review of Galley Bay Resort Antigua

by Dave Jackson

Galley Bay Resort is the perfect all-inclusive retreat for the discerning traveler. Its secluded setting on the tranquil west coast of Antigua enjoys forty-acres of tropical gardens between a bird sanctuary lagoon and a three-quarter mile beach. The award winning Galley Bay resort is an intimate all inclusive beachfront escape for adults who seek a restorative refreshingly unpretentious atmosphere. Set on Antiguas west coast on a jewel like private beach with 96 guest rooms situated amid 40 acres of lush tropical gardens.

These charming, completely private cottages feature white-washed walls and high-peaked ceilings with overhead paddle fans, projecting the atmosphere of recreation, relaxation and romance, characteristic of Galley Bay vacations. At the end of each day, you’ll relax in rustic, quintessentially Caribbean accommodations featuring terra cotta floors, rattan furniture, local artwork and louvered windows. It’s quiet and the beach is relaxing. On one night, the resort lounge showcased a great band.

The resort’s private pool features waterfalls which offer the perfect spot to relax. They also offer an air-conditioned fitness center and activities such as water sports (sunfish, hobie cat sailboats, and kayaks), snorkeling off the wreck of the Andes, and golfing at one of the two 18-hole gold courses within close distance to the resort. Galley Bay is perfect for a completely relaxing time where you can pretty much keep yourself to yourself and everything is at hand when you want it. We had a beach front room with a view. Galley Bay, an intimate, Caribbean hideaway, delights guests with its refined, unpretentious atmosphere and its relaxing, all-inclusive pricing. Its glimmering turquoise seascapes and lush gardens create a relaxing, natural setting for those who want to decompress and escape from the world.

The beach and sea are the focal point of each relaxing day, with nature trails, water sports, and boat trips to Tobago Cays offering a dash of excitement. Elegant evenings begin with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the alfresco bar and end with candelit dinners in the Royal Palm restaurant. The concierge arranges your activities, from horseback riding and water sports to day-long excursions, while you relax poolside or on Tobago’s gorgeous beaches. You deserve to be pampered and Coco Reef makes sure you are.

It also includes access to the hotel’s secluded bayside beach, snorkeling, sunfish sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, tennis courts, croquet, a freshwater swimming pool and fitness center. Villa Nicobar is a stunning new spacious villa located in the exclusive Galley Bay and has uninterrupted views of the sea and beach. The most luxurious products have been used, sourced throughout Europe by an international interior designer. There are two restaurants on site, you’ll find superb dining at the Turtle Restaurant offering a wide selection and casual fare at the Beach House. There are of course great cocktails and an interesting wine list available at the resorts two cocktail bars.

The resort is on it’s own beach so it’s quiet. The pool never seems to be used much although it’s huge, I guess the beach is just so much better. And Galley Bay’s 70 rooms are nestled in 40 acres of beautiful gardens with a historic windmill, a lagoon, bird sanctuary and a very private 3/4 mile white-sand beach. All guests are taken to their rooms in a golf cart on arrival, even though all of the amenities and rooms are within easy walking distance. Large beach patios & modern bathrooms. First floor walk-out onto beach.
