Review of St James’s Club & Villas Antigua

by Dave Jackson

The Resort will make your stay truly comfortable and enjoyable. Diversions such as dining, water sports, activities and excursions are only part of our service. Since the resort opened its Dive Center, thrilled divers have come face to face with some 70 species of fish that live on the colorful reefs of . Blackout dates, minimum night stays, seasonal surcharges, taxes, resort fees and other restrictions may apply. Some booking and travel dates may vary. Wonderful resort, staff particularly good in all the restaurants they could not do enough for us both. The resort’s 41 spacious Villas are equipped with full kitchens and plenty of room for families to spread out and relax.

A full-service dive center and a spa are available at the resort, as well as six tennis courts and a fitness center. This resort is an older one, true, but the upside is that the grounds are mature. Our room was clean, comfortable and although there were no granite countertops in the bathroom, we did have an ocean view from a huge balcony. James’s Club Resort & Villas is situated on a private 100-acre estate, surrounded by lush hills and crystal blue waters just minutes from English Harbour, Nelson’s Dockyard and Shirley Heights. The well-appointed guest rooms are located in the heart of the action and nearby, The Village features private residential-style villas on the resort’s sloping hillside.

The casual plan of Antigua carries straight through to its dining options, and the local flavor lends itself to just about every dish. Nearly all the island chefs specialize in dishes using island ingredients and techniques of Creole cuisine to prepare the finest fare or just to whip up a fresh salad on the beach. Four restaurants range from casual waterside dining to romantic settings with panoramic views and eclectic menu offerings to please every palate. Nearby, golf , shopping, tours and excursions await your discovery. A full-service Resort that exudes a casual, club-like ambience, St. James’s Club offers travelers a hideaway replete with amenities and activities, in a lush tropical setting.

Many Caribbean villas offer private pools, fantastic beachfront property, and even a personal staff. Your transfers are pre-arranged, your car rental is secured, and dinner reservations at the island’s top restaurants are set. All accommodations include: balcony or patio (private), ceiling fan, telephone (direct dial), air conditioning, safe deposit box, hairdryer, television (cable), alarm clock radio, bathrobes and bath/shower (private). Specific bedding and/or special requests are fulfilled based on availability and cannot always be guaranteed. Separate air-conditioned living room with sofa bed, wrap around balcony and private plunge pool. Can accommodate either three adults or two adults and two children.

Located by the pool is a guest cottage with an en-suite bathroom. The pools were lovely with a fab swim up bar (although i like pools to be a bit deeper . Included in the all-inclusive price: 3 swimming pools. Breakfast, lunch & dinner daily, bar drinks by the glass (excludes champagne, bottled wine & premium brands), afternoon tea, welcome champagne cocktail on arrival, weekly Manager’s cocktail party, weekly beach barbecue.

Master bedroom has king-size bed, full bath with tub, shower and bidet. Second bedroom has full bath with shower and two twin beds. Lodging options include rooms, suites, and 2-bedroom villas, some of the last facing the beach. Rates are for two people. Two-bedroom Suites with meal and beverage service included! An elegant blend of traditional and West Indian tropical decor, the Suites are situated on the highest point of the Resort, each taking in dramatic and breathtaking views which encompass the nearly private cove, crystalline waters and the horizon dotted with islands and cays beyond.
