John Smith’s Bay, Bermuda

by Dave Jackson

John Smith’s Bay is the only public beach in Smith’s Parish. It’s named after Captain John Smith who produced a map of Bermuda in 1631, despite never having set foot on the island. The captain was one of the early English colonists in Virginia and was saved by Pocahontas. Interestingly, Pocahontas went on to marry John Rolfe who was one of the men aboard Sir George Somers’ shipwrecked Sea Venture.

The Beaches of Jersey Shore

by Dave Jackson

When asked who has the best beaches - New York or Jersey, the answer almost always is, “No contest IMHO - Jersey Shore.” Unless you’re from New York. “Long Island’s best are the Hamptons and Montauk. Montauk is truly beautiful, but the Hamptons are overrated some say. Coney Island is truly historic and great, but rundown and dirty today.”

Airlie Beach Australia

by Dave Jackson

Airlie Beach is situated in the dry tropics, rather than the wet tropics. Local terrain contributes to many tourist areas being in rain shadows from south east breezes for much of the year. The gateway to your trip through the Whitsundays, Airlie Beach is such a party town! Great bars and clubs, the beaches aren’t that great, but following in Cairns’ footsteps, there’s a lagoon that the beautiful people like to lounge around. The ride to Airlie Beach is smooth and takes about 40 minutes. Everything within Airlie is very accessible and so walking will get you everywhere!

A lot of people like vacation packages because they are convenient and worry-free. However, be aware that in general the regular-priced “brochure rate” Disney vacation packages are not going to save you money. Disney World is the size of San Francisco, so even with the efficient and free Disney transportation system, getting from point A to point B can take a long time. It can seem even longer at the end of a busy day at the theme parks. Twisting tides, roaring rapids and the world’s tallest, fastest free-fall speed slide make a day in the sun a very cool idea. Take a swing at golf on any of five challenging, tour-caliber courses.

Best Beaches of Zanzibar

by Dave Jackson

When most Americans hear the word Zanzibar, they think Spice Island, that tropical paradise east of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean. Visions of huge travel trunks complete with stickers from all destinations. It appears today as it did more than a century ago when famed missionary/explorer Dr. David Livingstone lived just before his last safari into deepest, darkest Africa.
