Ngapali Beach Myanmar

by Dave Jackson

Ngapali is accessible by plane from Yangon to Thandwe, then continuing to the Beach via coach. Once you’re in Thandwe, Myanmar, it’s only seven kilometers to this three kilometer stretch of coconut palm lined, soft sandy meeting of the land and sea. This is what Asia?s beaches were like before everyone knew about them. It is ideally located on the prime-stretch of white-sand beach front 15-minutes drive from the Thandwe airport. Recently renovated to reflect the warmth and the charm of the past with the modern comfort, Ngapali Beach Hotel is built amidst the tropical garden with local materials and teakwood.

How could we forget Cabo Rojo and the dramatic Cabo Rojo Lighthouse of 1882. La Playuela beach here is a mainstay for all the locals. This beauty fronts a state forest. The lighthouse is worth seeing but be careful on the last bit of road here. It can quickly turn to mud after a little rain.

Boqueron is another beautiful beach in the area, just 30 minutes up the road from La Playuela. Boqueron has the best balneario in the area and 5 km of out of this world beach. The sand, like on most beaches of Puerto Rico, is off-white. This is because of the great rock content. Not too much coral. Try the middle section of Boqueron. We found a lot of sea grass on both sides of the beach.

And now for something entirely different. For those who know life off the tourist trap path, the East Coast Beaches of Los Cabos were designed for you. Full of great amenities, but not as traveled as the beaches around Cabo San Lucas, the East Coast Beaches are a delight. In fact, the culture here is entirely different, as well as the local food, from what you will find in Cabo. The reason is the terrain. With rough terrain come rough people - not in the sense that they are mean or hard to get along with. They are wonderful, but a little rough around the edges. It is harder to get here and things are a little harder to get than in other Baja California regions. And for some reason time seems to have stood still in several areas on this coast. Not complaining. I love it that way. So now it’s your turn. Come here to find the real Los Cabos. Leave a different person.
