Probably one of the most picturesque beaches in Key West is Smathers Beach. It’s well known to the locals, but if you’re coming down from Miami and looking at a map, you might just pass it up. And this is one interesting (if not THE most talked about beach) picks in Key West because as with anything, many opinions. You’ll find vendors offering everything from beach chairs to umbrellas to jetski rentals and a few things in between (parasailing, kayaking, etc).
South Padre Island is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state of Texas. Not only is SPI well known for its fine restaurants and clubs, but also for its natural beauty. The World Birding Center located on South Padre Island is 50 acres of intertidal flats, native shrubs, and trees that are the first stop for the birds making the cross Gulf migration from Mexico and Central America. Warblers, tanagers, orioles, and thrushes are common to the wooded areas while the wetland areas are host to waterfowl, shorebirds, and even the endangered species of brown pelican, piping plover, and peregrine falcon. South Padre Island is famous for being a spring break destination. Hotels will fill up with college kids, often several to a room.

A jet ski rental booth is located just across the road, opposite the beach and a few vendors rent snorkel gear, floats and noodles. The island has long been know for it’s great bargain shopping. The name says it all: this is one of the ritziest, glitziest beaches in Australia. Surfers is a clever creation, fabricated by corporations. It started out like every other beach town on Australia’s East Coast, but in the past 50 years, its transformed into an entirely different beast. Rampant commercialization and condo and hotel building have led to an incredible increase in tourism. Casinos also abound in this tourism mecca. In our opinion, Surfers is similar to Venice Beach in Los Angeles: worth seeing for the spectacle, but worth skipping for the beach experience.
