Spa Resort

Monte Cristi is located on the northwest tip of the island. My first site was in a town called Villa Vasquez, in the community of El Arrozal. Monsignor Abreu told DR1 News that the area of Monte Cristi is the -fifth touristic hub of the Dominican Republic-, and must be developed by its own people. Monte Cristi is a sleepy town of about 20,000 residents located on the northwest coast of the Dominican Republic.

And right in Monte Cristi, one house we saw for sale, the owner had started building a kitchen and bathrooms on the second floor so that is part way done. It would come with 500 chairs, a generator, music equipment that they used in the disco (which I assume is some kind of sound system but I’m not sure.) The problem is that he is asking about $118,000 and then there would be construction costs, fixing up downstairs so it didn’t look like a discotec, etc. Looked kinda crazy, but it fits the care free lifestyle here.

Isla Cabrita , with its nice beach and lighthouse, is just off the mainland. Located close to the historic town of Carcassone, this luxury spa resort has just a few town houses and villas remaining, with prices from only 205,000 euros, deferred mortgages of up to 36 months available and notary fees paid. Superb holiday and investment opportunity not to be missed! As of now, there is an estimated thirty thousand Monte Cristi locals who makes living from salt flats, fishing and farming.

Sand Island

The Dominican Republic’s main highway slices the island like a machete cleaving a green coconut. We joined it only a dozen miles beyond the urban sprawl of Santiago, the country’s second-largest city, and already it had narrowed to a single lane in each direction, paved but punctuated by occasional washouts and tire-gobbling holes. Each time one of the charity groups travel to the Dominican Republic, we take suitcases filled with donations. These donations are used at the orphanage and are distributed in the local Monte Cristi community. The children of the Dominican Republic want to learn English, because it will provide improved educational and career opportunities.

Discovered in 1966 off the north coast of the Dominican Republic, the Monte Cristi shipwreck represents the remains of an English-built ship carrying a Dutch cargo that sank in Spanish waters during the mid-17th century. Despite heavy salvage of the site by sport divers and treasure hunters, significant features of the ship’s construction and a substantial sample of the ship’s cargo have survived.

Best French Beaches - Saint-Jean de Luz

September 6, 2008

Saint-Jean de Luz has a cute downtown with cafes and shops. It features a long stretch of beach along France’s famous Cote Vermeille (Red Coast) and it is a short drive to Spain. The train station in Saint-Jean-de-Luz (pronounced sahn-john-duh-LOOZ) is near the center of town and very close to hotels. Saint Jean de Luz [...]
