Resorts in Corsica

by Dave Jackson

In July and August Corsica is crowded with tourists and hotels are often booked full weeks in advance. You can browse our select offerings by resort themes like hotels, villas, private islands, health spas, beach & boating, adventure, activities or skiing. You can also search our resorts online database or simply ask a luxury resort consultant to provide you with a selection of options, depending on your preferences, interests, and group type. Hotel Le Goeland (0 495 701415, www.hotel-le-goeland.com) offers comfortable rooms on the marina from L101; no pool. Grand Hotel de Cala Rossa (0 495 716151, www.relaischateaux.fr/calarossa ) has a stunning beachfront location and its own speedboat; doubles from L161.

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights and liked it. The check in was very easy and fast also it was very fast to check out. This may include duplicate listings of the same hotel, as we will show you all matching properties from multiple hotel suppliers. These suppliers may therefore show different tariffs as they have their own room allocation and negotiated special rates.

Sandy beaches and rocky coves punctuate the west coast all the way down to Ajaccio , Napoleon’s birthplace and the island’s capital, where pavement cafes and palm-lined boulevards are thronged with tourists in summer. Slightly fewer make it to nearby Filitosa , greatest of the many prehistoric sites scattered across the south. Although San Lucianu is not an adult only resort there’s enough space to escape and find a secluded spot in which to relax. And because the kids’ clubs are well away from the beach, you’ve plenty of piece and quiet. La Croix-Valmer is probably the most pleasant of the resorts, and St-Tropez is a must – for a day’s visit at least. Inland, amidst the dense wooded hills of the Massif des Maures , are the gorgeous ancient villages of Collobrieres and La Garde Freinet.

For those of you looking for beautiful nature and an island that looks like it has not changed in twenty years (so for the Europe of another era) you will be most pleasantly surprised to discover Corsica. Natural settings seem to change every few kilometers, especially on the West coast. Rugged mountain ranges, forests and thousand-kilometer coastline all offer breathtaking locations for your wedding in Corsica. Travel a winding road through the villages of Zilla, source of a popular mineral water, and Cassano, en route to Lunghignano. Drive to Santo Antonino and pass the multicoloured church of Aregno.

Corsicans today tolerate French rule unwillingly, but radicals are tempered by the realisation that the island economy is heavily subsidised and islanders enjoy generous tax concessions. The west-coast has rough conditions, while the eastern part of the island has more moderate conditions. Good windsurfspots are hard to find on the east-coast because of the constant West-winds. If you like walking then the island has everything from easy strolls to challenging mountain treks. There is an intricate network of ancient footpaths and mule paths, criss-crossing the whole island linking valley with valley and making Corsica a walker’s paradise.
