Best Maldives Resorts

by Dave Jackson

With Four Seasons hotels recently opening in India and China, the chain will soon be known in every major country. The Maldives Four Seasons Hotel features thatched-roof bungalows set on stilts above the beautiful blue lagoon, and a spa that takes up the entire space on one of the 1192 islands of the Maldives. Some of the rooms have part open-air bathrooms while the Water Villas have wooden sun decks. The inside of the room is plain, the bathroom is partly open to the sky. All would be very well, except that when we visited the tap and shower water was a mix of desalinated and salt water.

Our Favorite Seychelles

by Dave Jackson

The top Seychelles beaches are arguably found on the three main islands, but by no means should you be disappointed if you go looking for sandy stretches on some of the Outer Islands, such as Desroches and Fregate . Seychelles is very much a tropical paradise, and the beaches in Seychelles are ideal havens for the stressed and weary. You can also read more about Seychelles beaches on our main site. Although Mahe is the most developed and visited island its mountainous interior remains undisturbed. The islands 75 beaches are spectacular providing crystal clear water and safe swimming.

Cat Island Bahamas

by Dave Jackson

So easy to get to, the Bahamas are an inexpensive get-away for many Americans. And Cat Island is just one of the many historic stopping points in this string of island just waiting to be discovered off the coast of Florida. It’s a nation, and they speak English. But that’s as far as the similarities go. Bahama culture and its people permeate the globe. Yet here on Cat Island there is an up close look and a part that will never leave. This is an experience you must make possible in your lifetime.

The Beaches in the Maldives are spectacular. What you’ll find here is a great place to play Robinson Crusoe - tiny islands with soft, sandy beaches, sparkling turquoise lagoons and a bungalow on the beach. Crusoe would have been blown away by the comfort of some of the upscale resorts here.

Largely unexplored by Americans due to the lack of direct flights to the Maldives, the islands have long been the playground of Europeans seeking the awesome beaches and tranquil lagoons. But that’s probably why the Maldives and the Seychelles remain unspoiled for the most part.

With the entire island only 17 miles long and a few miles wide, Mahe reigns supreme in pristine beaches. And how picturesque can you get? A small mountain chain runs down the center of Mahe, and the land flattens out as it reaches the shoreline. Along the north coast there are both beautiful beaches and really nice restaurants and hotels. On the flat ring around Mahe is where the main road runs and connects towns and villages all around. Beau Vallon sits northwest and was the main beach in the Seychelles for many years until tourist started taking a greater interest and it became easier to get to the nearby smaller islands. Today Beau Vallon is still beautiful, but it’s not as busy as it once was. So grab your snorkel and head here first.
