With Four Seasons hotels recently opening in India and China, the chain will soon be known in every major country. The Maldives Four Seasons Hotel features thatched-roof bungalows set on stilts above the beautiful blue lagoon, and a spa that takes up the entire space on one of the 1192 islands of the Maldives. Some of the rooms have part open-air bathrooms while the Water Villas have wooden sun decks. The inside of the room is plain, the bathroom is partly open to the sky. All would be very well, except that when we visited the tap and shower water was a mix of desalinated and salt water.
Every Thursday an air taxi seaplane catches up with the boat mid cruise, shuttling in the back-end tourists and picking up and returning with the front end group. The island has a triangular shape with tropical vegetation and very different beach on each side. People usually visits this place for swimming, diving, relaxing, and water sports. The island is very large and though there are a lot of rooms, it never felt crowded. The downside is the food was ok and the rooms were not as nice as other resorts but still decent and very clean. The good thing about the city hotels is that there are often private shops on the islands which provide cheaper goods as well as goods that would otherwise not be sold. Be assured that all the hotels are of top quality even if they are cheaper than the resorts.
Many of these spas are situated on the beach where you can enjoy the natural beauty of the islands as well as the therapeutic spa treatments. Some resorts offer even more exotic settings such as underwater spas. However, each resort island has its individual charm, character and ambiance that can best be appreciated through personal experience. Most resorts are on their own secluded island and aim to offer the best services to luxury travelers. This is probably one of those places to go when your vacation is largely confined to lazy days by the beach or exploring the vast seas as traveling between islands can be a bit of a hassle and observing local culture and lifestyle is largely limited to day trips.
