Ko Tarutao is the largest island in the group… and was the site of the Thailand Survivor show. There is a small restaurant tucked in the shade, alongside a stream on the coast of Ko Tarutao. Ko Tarutao is the largest island in the with area 151 sqkm of 11 km. Tarutao National Park boasts some of the best snorkeling in all of Thailand due to its remote location. Ko Tarutao is the biggest island in the park that covers an area of 152 square kilometres. The island is teeming with verdant forests and white sandy beaches.
The Moken have their own language and customs and support themselves through fishing and collecting coral and reef fish. They also exploit some terrestrial resources, such as timber, and there is a permanent settlement on Ko Lipe. There is a coral reef along the southern side of the small island and several small beach coves. There are several styles of bungalow that operationed in the main village along the east coast and on the southern side of this island, Hat Pattaya. The island offers coral reefs, a beautiful bay, and a white sandy beach. Ao Phatthaya is the most beautiful bay on this island.
We’ve managed to find several areas where the coral is in superb condition. Globally, this is rare. Ko Hin Ngam is totally unique in the Tarutao area; rather than having white coral-sand beaches, this tiny island’s one beach is entirely made of these beautiful round stones. The stones will curse those who remove them, legends say. Ko Lipe is one of the famous about Coral island . Ko Lipe located far from the Pakbara pier about 7 km or 1 hour by longtail.
Next was Ko Andang an island of densely forested hills, white-sand beaches, beautiful drift wood and healthy coral reefs. On our way back to Lipe we spotted a school of bottle nose dolphins. The islands in this region feature wonderful white sandy beaches and superb coral reefs. Ko Hong (‘hong’ meaning ‘room’), part of the Ko Hong archipelago is so named because of its large internal lagoon. The sand here is not as nice as at Ko Rawi, it’s rather shredded corals and shells than sand. But nonetheless, there’s a lot of shade and the water is clear.
Because Phetra Islands National Park is the host of nature’s beauty, virgin forests, untouched mountains, it is flourished with bountiful species of wildlife in addition to the picturesque and colorful corals in the sea. Today, its best beaches include Ao Phante Malaka and Ao Mo Lae, and waterfalls, coral reefs, limestone caves and ruined prison sites comprise the island’s best sight-seeing. Monkeys and wild pigs roam the islands free.
Some of the best camping areas are at the beaches of Ao Jak and Ao San and both bays are located south of the park’s headquarters. For a marvelous view of the two bays, climb Topu Hill, which is 500m north of the park office. Ko Tarutao is still one of the lesser known marine parks in Thailand but over the last 5 years the number of visitors has increased almost exponentially which led to severe environmental problems. The latter is an excellent spot from which to explore the adjacent and uninhabited islands. There is also an abundance of marine life in the park and the Park is said to contain about 25% of the world’s fish species. Significant fishes include shark, ray, eel, catfish, salmon, angelfish, and butterfly fish.
