South Padre Island is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state of Texas. Not only is SPI well known for its fine restaurants and clubs, but also for its natural beauty. The World Birding Center located on South Padre Island is 50 acres of intertidal flats, native shrubs, and trees that are the first stop for the birds making the cross Gulf migration from Mexico and Central America. Warblers, tanagers, orioles, and thrushes are common to the wooded areas while the wetland areas are host to waterfowl, shorebirds, and even the endangered species of brown pelican, piping plover, and peregrine falcon. South Padre Island is famous for being a spring break destination. Hotels will fill up with college kids, often several to a room.
Welcome to Sandy Bay Beach, in Capetown, South Africa. Here, on a busy weekend, the southern part of this unofficial nude beach hosts hundreds of gay men but still doesn’t feel crowded. The only ones getting a good view of the Sandy Bay Beach are those taking a scenic helicopter ride from the Waterfront. First Beach is renowned for its sun-worshiping trendy set, while Third is a favourite of the teens, and Fourth Beach, with its nearby parking and refreshment facilities, caters mostly for family outings. The sun drenches these relatively secluded stretches virtually from sunrise to sunset, and revellers often party on into the night with picnic suppers.
Panama City Beach, or PCB, as it’s known is the new Spring Break Capital. And they know how to pick ‘em. We found over 26 miles of unbroken great white sand that extends from St. Andrews State Park to Phillips Inlet.
You’ll find that on a sunny day, the vision on polar-white sand and emerald-green sea is irresistible to anyone above ground.
Panama City Beach is among the more beautiful along the Panhandle shoreline, where blinding white sheets of quartz sand meet the clear emerald water of the Gulf of Mexico. The beach is a healthy width in most places - we found thanks to the renourishment projects (necessary because of hurricanes, which did their share of stripping away in the 1990′s).
