Sandy Bay, Cape Town SA

by Dave Jackson

Welcome to Sandy Bay Beach, in Capetown, South Africa. Here, on a busy weekend, the southern part of this unofficial nude beach hosts hundreds of gay men but still doesn’t feel crowded. The only ones getting a good view of the Sandy Bay Beach are those taking a scenic helicopter ride from the Waterfront. First Beach is renowned for its sun-worshiping trendy set, while Third is a favourite of the teens, and Fourth Beach, with its nearby parking and refreshment facilities, caters mostly for family outings. The sun drenches these relatively secluded stretches virtually from sunrise to sunset, and revellers often party on into the night with picnic suppers.

Situated on the coastal road to Melkbosstrand, the beach is just over the road with the world famous view of Table Mountain. Big shopping centre with cinemas etc within 5km range.

Simon’s Town is steeped in history and naval tradition offers its visitors endless unspoiled white sandy beaches. There is the unique fynbos flora and fauna adjacent to the town. As long as you are in front of the walkway, you can enjoy yourself, and the beach is still good for swimming. It stretches all the way to Gordon’s Bay, a distance you would struggle to walk in one day! Take long, lazy strolls on Hout Bay’s expansive beach or partake in safe swimming, surfing, windsurfing, paddle skiing, kayaking and scuba diving.

There are guaranteed to be some sights that you won’t see at a regular beach. These guys, however, were pretty special. Llandudno Sunsets is located within walking distance of two of Cape Town’s best beaches. It takes 10 minutes to walk to the main Llandudno beach and Sandy Bay beach is located 15 minutes walk to the South. This unofficial nudist beach is backed by steep dunes and mountain slopes. The only way to get there is a 20 minute walk from the car park through the indigenous Cape fynbos vegetation.

Llewellyn and I spent the weekend in Cape Town this weekend and here I am on the rocks of Sandy Bay, the only real nudist beach in South Africa. Nothing spectacular or hot, but here I am. Magically positioned between mountain and sea, the beach stretch from False Bay to the Atlantic coast is ideal for sun lovers and water sports fans. Travel to Clifton Beach, near Camps Bay, and relax in the soothing atmosphere of our great family rental guest house apartment. Enquire now about availability, or go ahead and book this exclusive dream vacation villa online and enjoy a hassle free holiday.

Catering, car hire & baby sitting can be arranged. Be prepared for a longish walk from the parking area to the beach, then enjoy an unspoiled environment. Any one who has walked along the beach on a windy day has felt the force of the sand-grains on their faces, and carried these small particles away embedded in their hair. The sand itself is soft and white because of the predominantly quartzitic rocks of the Table Mountain ( in Cape Town) Group.

No, it is not the trend of feminal Cape Town to wear the black & white swimming suits, it is the colony of Jackass puinguins who live permanently on Boulders beach. They are worth your visit, so drive care fully! Sandy Bay is the nudist beach, or at least part of it, with cruising at the far side of the beachs’ sand dunes. Clifton on the other hand is the ‘Miami Beach’ of Capetown, a place for the rich and famous and the place to be seen but sure who says you have to be rich or famous to hang out there! It was the first nudist beach in South Africa, a beautiful place, not easy to reach. Only few, special people frequented it, feeling so near to nature.
