Florida

Captiva Island is truly subtropical, and enjoys fine weather all year. The peaceful barrier island includes a wildlife sanctuary and miles of white sand beaches. Remote and undiscovered, North Captiva Island is accessible only by ferry, private boat or small plane. This private island community is reminiscent of old Florida as it once was during a simpler time. Captiva Island is widely regarded as having one of the best beaches in the world. Island Girl is so very special as a vacation beach home because it’s so close to the beach (one house in from beachfront, about 100 feet). Perfect for romantic getaways, family adventures, or nature-lovers, Captiva Island is home to blue skies, warm waters, scenic palm trees and white sand beaches. Guests of a Captiva Island vacation rental flock to the turquoise waters of the beach for shelling, scuba diving and windsurfing. North Captiva Island is more than just a vacation destination, it’s an escape!

Go south on Hwy 331 until you reach Hwy 98. Proceed 1 mile and turn right (south) on County Road 283. Just a few miles southwest of Bahia Honda is Big Pine Key, primary habitat of one of the United States rarest, most threatened and cutest animal species, the Key deer. These small deer, a sub species of the Virginia whitetail, stand only two to three feet high at the shoulder. After a brief introduction, the book divides into four sections: west, north, central, and south Florida. For each section there is an outline map locating the camps and major towns and cities.

South Florida Beaches

by Dave Jackson

One of the few beaches open after dark (until 10 p.m.), Red Reef offers swimming, sunbathing, surf casting, and strolling over the dunes along a boardwalk. There’s a designated surfing area on south end. Dine at a dockside restaurant, take a glassbottom boat out to the reef, relax and enjoy the tropical sun. As you travel down the Keys you’ll become more relaxed, your pace will get slower, you’ll linger a while. Florida beach sand consistency in the northwest along Pensacola, and Panama City Beach is fine and very white. Clearwater Beach also shares this same fine and very white texture. North of the county park, side streets of A1A lead to an even more isolated beach.
