If you read most websites, you’d think Goa, India, was the center of the planet as far as beaches are concerned. And it’s not bad - it’s just not the Seychelles or the peaceful Caribbean. In fact, South Anjuna beach is arguably where more LSD has been taken than anywhere else on the planet. It was the scene of the Goan full moon parties of the 60′s and 70′s and is still one of the last strongholds of the original freaks. Anjuna beach is well connected by regular state and private buses from Panjim and Mapusa. Tourists can also hire motorcycle taxis and auto-rickshaws from Mapusa to reach Anjuna. But as beautiful as this place could be, there are dogs and flea markets and a seedy side to the whole place.
Goa Anjuna beach is a perfect haven for the hippies and you will come across some of them who have been staying on this beach for a couple of months. It is in the late 1950s to mid-1960s that Anjuna beach was “discovered” by the hippies. Anjuna Beach is also an ideal place for full-moon parties held especially during Christmas and New Year. Tourists love enjoying the blissful atmosphere of the luminous full-moon casting a spell and the soft foamy waves kissing their feet. Anjuna beach is one of the most beautiful and popular beaches in Goa. It is known as the ‘freak capital of the world’, because of the moonlit parties and the Flea market that makes it the most hip and happening beach of Goa.
With its fluorescent painted palm trees and full moon parties, Anjuna Beach, is one of the most popular beaches of Goa. Most people’s reasons for coming to Anjuna are the same as they were in the 1970s: dancing and lying on the beach slurping tropical fruit.
The Goa party season is generally over Christmas-New Year, when outdoor parties are held every other night at locations such as Hilltop (Vagator), Bamboo forest and Shiva temple (Anjuna). To find out where the party is you need to ask around- most taxi driver’s will be able to tell you. If you want to let your hair down and have fun at any of the beach parties while in Goa, then Anjuna beach party is the place to be.
The Anjuna beach in Goa comes to life with the rave parties held during the nights that continue till the wee hours of the morning. Not our cup of tea.
Goa Anjuna beach is often crowded with people, children making sand castles, colorful crowds surging towards the sea, hippies busy remembering the good old times and the young and old alike lazing on the golden sands. This picture of a perfect tourist haven is completed with shacks and stalls under the shade of palm trees selling everything from fried prawns and beer to trinkets made of seashells. Fabulous views of forest, fields and hills from the villa. The villa close by also has an electric barbeque you could set up in the back garden for a fabulous Goan evening under the stars.
