Mission Beach is very laid back, with long deserted beaches and plenty of ocean front accommodation. It is a very popular weekend getaway destination for Cairns and Townsville residents. Mission Beach is a fantastic place to stay! Pristine beaches, dolphins, great restaurants, quiet laid-back atmosphere. Mission Beach is a secluded destination, yet vibrant and exciting. Day trips to Dunk Island offer a magic experience with lots of water activities, such as diving and sailing, secluded beaches, resort pools and scenic bush walks.
From here a narrow, 8km long strip of sand, stretches north to connect with Cape Sandwich and Cape Richards. This is backed on the protected western side by extensive mangrove forests. The narrow strip of land between the bay and the ocean is the northern part of Mission Beach. Pacific Beach is in the upper right quarter.
White water rafting trips are a popular excursion, most of which take place on the Tully River. This is also a great place to organise a sky dive, as the views are spectacular and it is one of the few places where you can land on the beach. You will spend over 5 action-packed hours rafting 45 rapids in remote World Heritage Rainforest .
Our last days off from work we headed over to Hamilton Island, which is a bigger island in the Whitsundays. It’s an island you can actually live on. Good fair-weather anchorage is found off the northwestern end of North Island. Camping is not permitted on the Brook Islands and no facilities are provided. This spacious, island-style, timber building is nestled in lush rainforest. The hostels features include lofty ceilings a sundeck overlooking a stunning pool area.
Each morning relax over a gourmet topical breakfast or a full cooked breakfast (the choice is yours). A complimentary drink of wine, beer or softdrink is served each evening on the verandah as we watch the sun set over the palm trees and listen to the sounds of the rainforest. Each of these delightful cottages (there are only 4 ) is fully self contained and even has its own personal verandah with personal BBQ overlooking the night lit pool. Everything has been thought of here to make that family experience very special. There is also a full service restaurant attached to the resort that offers an extravagant all-you-can-eat buffet. Travellers on the Oz Experience can score this buffet at a discounted price of $13.
They now can send out accommodation confirmation emails with a link to their secure e-Path system. They receive reservation deposit payments in return without incurring any extra transaction fees or charges. And because there’s no ‘middle man’, there’s no hefty commissions to prevent the accommodation venue from offering you super attractive rates. This means some great deals on accommodation that you simply won’t find anywhere else. By booking the skydive through the hostel we got a night’s free accommodation — can’t argue with that! The only thing that lets this hostel down is the lack of air-conditioning.
