The Charm of Phi Phi Island Thailand

by Dave Jackson

The main attraction of the Phi Phi islands is their warm crystal clear water. Most daytime activities involve being on or in the water. On Phi Phi Island we have several smaller boats for hire so that you can enjoy activities such as scuba diving or fishing. For a trip with a difference, take a ride on sea canoe or go windsurfing and enjoy the sights of the shallow and deep water coral reefs that lie along the coast. All around the Phi Phi Islands, marine life is abundant and snorkeling stops will be a feature of any tour. Visibility here is excellent - up to 20 metres - and the variety of coral and fish you will see is amazing.

The best time to visit Phi Phi Island is during the monsoon-free season, which is from November to April. There’s a regular service which leaves from Phuket Town twice a day to Phi Phi island - around 08:30 and 12:30. The boat trip takes around 1:30 minutes to 2:30 minutes, depending on whether it’s an express or standard boat service.

Diving around the Phi Phi Islands is a real potpourri of underwater sensations. The dive sites are easily accessible from Phi Phi, Phuket or Krabi and are teeming with a huge variety of tropical marine life. The fastest and most convenient way travel to Koh Phi Phi island is by speed boat. Visit the “Viking” cave with cave paintings of sail boats, which look similar to Viking ships.

There are numerous activities in the Ko Phi Phi Island that the tourist can engage like scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and climbing. Ko Phi Phi Island is in other words the picture post card destination and would offer holiday with a difference. Ko Lanta and the Phi Phi Islands are part of Krabi province and both lie within a designated marine national park. Phi Phi island consists of two islands, Phi Phi Don, the larger one of the two with an abundance of fine beaches and accommodation to suit all needs. The more geographically dramatic, Phi Phi Ley, with its cliffs, natural caves and water-filled canyon offers the tourists exciting and outdoor pursuits.

Fine, white sandy beaches and breathtaking rock formations rising from the vivid turquoise waters that surround the islands will instantly confirm you’ve arrived in paradise. Exploring Phi Phi couldn’t be more fun, with Scuba Diving , Snorkeling , Kayaking or Climbing being the most popular methods, when taking a break from the silky soft sands. Our villa was five steps to the white powder sandy beach. The Villa was very clean, well sat out, spacious and comfortable.

You can also come from Krabi town four times daily, Ao Nang beach at 8.30 am, Railay Beach at 8.45 and from Lanta Island at 8.00 am and 2.00 p.m. It is not just the splendor of the verdant rocks or the snow-white beaches. It is not just the pastel, clear sea. Visit Maya Bay, the idyllic location where the movie” The Beach” was filmed for snorkeling and swimming.
